Hello, It's Amelia here with another crochet cat hat pattern! This time we have created a witch hat pattern for the spooky season. This simple, straightforward design will make the perfect Halloween costume for your pet!
You can use any yarn you want to customize this hat for YOUR cat! But, keep in mind that the size of the yarn will affect the final product's size. This will fit most cats and some small dogs. You can always adjust the size of the ear holes to make the hat fit any pet.
Materials:
Two Different Colors of Yarn (Any Color) Light or Medium Weight
Corresponding Crochet Hook
Abbreviations:
C: Chain
SC: Single Crochet
DC: Double Crochet
SS: Slip Stitch
INC: Increase
Step 1: The Top of the Hat
Create a Magic Circle
R1: Chain1, DC 4 into magic ring (4)
R2: SS into the first DC, Chain 1, DC into the same stitch as Chain, (DC, DC INC) 2, DC (7)
R3: SS into the first DC, Chain 1, DC into the same stitch as Chain, (2 DC, DC INC) 2, DC (9)
R4: SS into the first DC, Chain 1, DC into the same stitch as Chain (3 DC, DC INC) 2, DC (11)
R5: SS into the first DC, Chain 1, DC into the same stitch as Chain (3 DC, DC INC) 2, 3 DC (13)
R6: SS into the first DC, Chain 1, DC into the same stitch as Chain (2 DC, DC INC) 4 (15)
R7: Dc in each stitch around (15)
SS into the first DC, Pull yarn through and cut leaving a tail.
Step 2: Make the Band
Switch to the second color yarn.
R8: (3 SC, SC INC ) 4 (20)
R9: SS into the first SC, Chain 1, SC into the same stitch as Chain, (4 SC, SC INC) 4, SC (23)
SS into the first SC, Pull yarn through, and cut leaving a tail.
Switch back to the first color yarn.
R10: SS into the first DC, (3 DC, DC INC) 6, DC (30)
Step 3: Ear Holes
R11: SS into the first DC, 4 DC, Chain 12, skip 6 stitches, and DC into 7th from Chain, 7 DC, Chain 12, skip 6 stitches, and DC into 7th from the Chain (43)
R12: SS into the first DC, (3 DC, DC INC) 8 (52)
R13: SS into the first DC, (4 DC, DC INC) 8 (58)
Step 4: Add the Ties
Chain 50, starting on the second chain from the hook, slip stitch back in all the loops

End off each tie and leave the yarn kinda long.
Attach the ties to the hat with a knot, then weave in the ends. Center each tie in the middle of the ear holes. (Example in the picture below)

Hello! Love the wobbly look of the hat, but the pattern confuses me... If we have four DCs at the end of step one, and only two increases in step two, how can we end step two with seven stitches? Thanks for your help :)
